It is funny how the same advice applies to us all whether you are Jordan Spieth (wow, this weeks performance was something else!) or a regular golfing enthusiast who loves hitting good shots and playing well....preperation is everything! 

There is no doubt that Jordan didn't just rock up this week with a hot putter. His driving, iron play and physique was bigger and better! It certainly looks like he did not take much time off during the short off season and if he goes on to have a record breaking season, he will have deserved it from what I see so far. That said it is early days and we will find out but I feel there is a lesson for us all in being prepared and sharp for when we all return to the competitive season.

What would you like to achieve this year? A lower handicap, win a medal, or golfer of the year, would you like to be part of a winning club team? Whatever your goals are, I hope you are doing something each week to bring you a step closer to them. All the little minutes add up so dont underestimate a few minutes here and there. We can, as we all know, find the time when we want to. In saying that, what and how you practise is important. I have found through my own coaching down the years that often golfers try to change too much in order to get better. 

If you holed one 20 foot putt each round, had less three putts hit, one more fairway each time you played, always got out of a bunker, played more sensibly when in trouble, I promise you would find your handicap coming down and winning more games and matches. Identify a part of your game that really hurts your scores and aim to be better at that part of your game by the beginning of this season. Find out what you need to do, practise it more effectively and you will play better golf, that is a promise!
