Wow....another great day for everyone at Naas GC!
Jonathan Yates is the West Of Ireland Champion for 2016, just two years after Jack Hume lifted the historic trophy at Rosses Point for the first time in our clubs history!
Jonathan defeated Daniel Holland of the Castle in a tough, well fought and exceptionally sporting final that was full of ebbs and flows, great golf, sometimes nervous golf but a match that we all enjoyed watching. In the end we were of course delighted for
Jonathan and it was great to see so many Naas members in Rosses Point after a long bank holiday weekend.
As they say, the craic was mighty and we are all so very proud of his magnificent achievement. Later this month
Jonathan will join
Jack and
Conor O'Rourke at the Lytham Trophy and then on to the Irish Amateur in Royal Dublin in early May.
We wish them all the very best for the season but what a great start to the year they and Naas GC have had!
"There's a great stretch in the evenings" With the clocks going forward that means more time to play golf! The range and course are full of golfers at the moment looking forward to the coming season and we are all praying for some great weather. The course changes are settling in nicely and there has been a great reaction from members and visitors over the past week or so and I am looking forward myself to playing the new holes soon.
Our Juniors were out last week in the
Jimmy Hackett trophy at Newlands and there was a notable performance from
David Marshall junior who had a gross 75, 66 nett!
Well done
David!
Do you know how far you hit the ball?
Most golfers will have an idea but an accurate number on your distances is an advantage. Most of us have assessed how far we hit the ball based on shots we hit on the course but having an accurate figure and then using that number against undulation, wind, temperature etc gives us a much better chance of improving our proximity to the hole and that means lower scores!
