Jack Nicklaus said in his book, Golf My Way, that the most important shot in a round of golf is your opening tee shot. He said that the opening tee shot deserves some thought because it sets you up for the day. Hitting a poor tee shot does not necessarily mean you won't have a good score but a good opening tee shot fills you with confidence and sets the tone for your round.
Over the next few weeks I will be looking at our best selling driver, the PING G series which comes in 3 different head types all designed to cater for the golfer who a) Needs to get the ball in the air b) needs less spin to reduce height and increase carry and probably the most common fault c) suffers with a slice or an exaggerated left to right shot (right hander). PING pride themselves on developing clubs that deliver more forgiveness, making the game easier for the amateur and indeed professional golfer and with the new "turbulator" technology which reduces drag and is proven to increase clubhead speed they have combined the best of both worlds with the G range.
This week I will focus on the most common and most destructive of strikes, low off the heel which increases left to right spin, increases overall spin and absolutely kills distance! PING have always engineered their technology to fight this most common of problems and here in the picture you can see a typical strike pattern that I see all too often during fittings.
The SF Tec G Driver is specifically designed to counteract this tendency and we have seen some fantastic results with increased distance AND accuracy from reduced spin rates and increased carry. If slicing or hitting the ball too high and to the right is something you have noticed in your game why not try the G SF Tec Driver and see for yourself.
We would be happy to give you some strike tape for you to test your own strike pattern OR we can observe you hitting a few shots in our studio and go through the results and determine what G Driver would best suit you before you head to the course.
Better service and better results!
Congratulations to Pipers Hill Girls Lauren Walsh, Fiona Behan (nephew of our David) and our own Isobel Gorey who beat Ursiline College Sligo for the All Ireland Senior Cup schools final. Isobele and Fiona have been taking lessons with me at our golf academy over the winter and Brian has been attending the school to give tuition as well. Well done to everyone involved and schools golf in Naas has been given a great boost by this achievment!
Brave words for any coach but my upcoming Long Game Masterclass guarantees exactly that! Improvment does not have to be complicated or require bashing lots of golf balls at the driving range. Accurate information is key to making changes for the better and I promise to deliver just that on Saturday, 6 May from 10am-1pm.
Is your long game up to scratch?
Are you interested in finding out how to get better from tee to green? Do you have some theories and ideas but you are not sure if what you are doing is correct and in the long term going to help you improve. Would you like to understand how launch monitors such as TrackMan CAN help your game? If so then this class is for you!
On Saturday, 6 May from 10am-1pm I will be running a long game clinic designed to answer these questions and many more. The class is limited to 4 people and includes tuition, golf balls at the range, relevant TrackMan data and practice routines for you to take forward.
All information will be shared with you by email and we are also including a light lunch at our new Somora Restraunt.
The cost is €150 and there is a members discount available. If you would like to book your place or have any questions please click here or contact me on 0868326676.
This class will set you up for your best golfing season ever!
