Launch angle and spin rates…..what's all that about??
It's easy for us Pro's to assume that certain language we use every day is understood by everyone but of course we know it is not the case and some phrases that launch angle and spin rate when it comes to Driver fittings is something that, whilst not rocket science is worth understanding before you make the investment.
Continuing my weekly insight in to our best selling Driver, the PING G series this week I am testing the difference between the standard G and the low spinning LS Tec head. The LS Tec head is specifically designed for mid to high launching tee shots with lower spin rates to improve both penetration and distance. Custom-engineered for the player who desires low, stable spin with forgiveness, the G LS Tec features a CG that is extremely low (slightly forward of the standard G driver).
Using a process called biomimicry, PING engineers analysed the dragonfly's intricate wing pattern to design ultra-thin crown sections for extreme CG and maximized MOI to deliver the longest, most forgiving driver to date.

Classes
From June we are running a Wedge clinic every Wednesday starting Wednesday, 7 June from 6-7pm. This class is limited to 6 people and the cost is €20 per person, per week. Learn how to create spin, use bounce and loft correctly and master your bunker play! We are delighted if you turn up on the night but feel free to give us a call/text if you would like to attend any of the evenings. 0868326676.
To get you ready for summer we are also running an improvers class from 7-8pm at the range every Wednesday for 8 weeks with a different topic each week. There is no need to sign up and it is on a first come first served basis. The cost is €15 per person and includes a small basket of balls at the range. Feel free to contact either myself or Brian for more details.
Competition round up
A big well done to our Hon. Treasurer Joe McWilliams who finished 10th in the Portuguese Seniors Amateur in Estoril last week. After a tough start on a long, tight golf course Joe rallied back well to finish in the top ten. Great performance and well done to Joe.
Well done to all our teams who made it through to the next rounds. It's early days but momentum is building!
Best of luck to Conor O'Rourke & Rob Brazil at the Irish Amateur, this year being staged at Royal Co.Down. The links at RCD is now ranked the best course in the world and the boys are in for a treat to be able to play a major event at such a great venue. Best of luck to them all!
Just what golf's been looking for
Having seen the indisputable impact that Twenty20 has had on growing the game of cricket, golf has been looking for its equivalent for a little while now; a shorter, fun and more attractive form of the game which will help drive interest and participation amongst a new generation.
This is where GolfSixes comes in. Entrance music, pyrotechnics, nearest the pin, longest drive, player-fan interaction and a shot clock were all part of the spectacle at the inaugural event last weekend, won by the youthful Denmark team. Yes there were things which will be improved upon moving forward but amid everything, GolfSixes proved that an exciting game of golf can be played over six holes and in under 60 minutes.
It's important to stress that - regardless of whether you enjoyed the weekend's play or not - GolfSixes is not designed to replace traditional golf as we know it, but to simply serve as a pathway to get more people playing the game we love.
Let us know what you made of it here.
