A Lot to Look Forward To

What an exciting few weeks we have coming up with the Irish Open at Lahinch and the Open Championship at Portrush to wet our golfing appetites! It promises to be a great occasion and I’m sure many of you will be traveling to at least one if not both! Ireland got things off to a great start last week when James Sugrue of Mallow won the Amateur Championship at Portmarnock, you really couldn’t write the script! Congratulations to James and his coach Michael Collins who I soldiered with on many fairways, a great achievement for both of you.

Congratulations to James Keating who won the PGA Tankard last week and thank you to everyone who played and also those who couldn't make it for your support. The presentation is on this Thursday 27th June and I look forward to presenting James with his prize.

Best of luck to our ladies next week who host the Ladies Irish Seniors Championship. The course is getting great compliments from all the visiting ladies and they are looking forward to the week. We have a few of our own playing so why not get out and support if you can.

Junior Summer Camps

This summer is camp time and or dates are now available for Junior Camps summer 2019.

Here is the list of dates for your diary but hurry as places are limited and are already filling up quickly!

Classes are in line with TPI Junior best practise coaching and will develop coordination and dynamic movements in a fun, game like environment.

Lucky number 17 for Reavie

If Chez Reavie plays the lottery this week then we recommend one of his picks is 17.

The American claimed the Travelers Championship by four shots with a total 17-under-par but despite shooting a joint back-nine record at TPC River Highlands on Saturday with a 7-under 28, a charging Keegan Bradley had his lead down to just one with three to play come Sunday.

Lucky number 17 came to the rescue though as Bradley shot a double bogey at the par 4 seventeenth whilst Reavie sunk a birdie at the same hole to stretch the lead to four where it stayed.

It was Chez Reavie’s second PGA Tour win and first since claiming the Canadian Open in 2008 – a tournament he won with a total score of (yep you guessed it) 17-under par.

Lost your groove?

Much like the tyres on your car, there comes a time when the grooves on your wedges have worn away so much that they need replacing. This process occurs slowly over time and is something that you might not notice at first glance, but when the wear becomes apparent it can have serious consequences on your game.

Fresh vs worn grooves

It might seem a little extreme, but the graphic above illustrates the impact worn grooves can have on shots into greens - a lower ball flight that rolls out farther compared to a wedge with fresh grooves.

Yes, you might be able to adapt by pitching the ball shorter and letting it roll out, but when you don't have much green to work with or are playing a delicate shot worn grooves will be of no use.

What do we suggest?

If dirt, grit and water have visibly harmed your wedge face, it’s time to get your groove back with a new wedge set-up.
