This week I attended the induction of a coaching course that I am taking over the winter. Improvement as we all know is a journey not a destination and that applies to us coaches as well as our students. The course is a journey of self discovery in all areas of coaching so I won't bore you with too much detail but one of the topics we discussed was the area of goals and goal setting in order to influence performance.

It is fundamental to achievement and you must have some image of what you would like to achieve. What would YOU like to achieve next season? Win your respective captains prize? Get your handicap in to the teens or single figures? Win the club matchplay? It could be to simply play to your current handicap?

Whatever your particular goal is I would encourage you to think of something you CAN achieve that will bring more enjoyment to your game next year. Whatever it is, identify what is holding you back, maybe you just need to practise more regularly, maybe you need to get a lesson to sort out your bunker play or your driving, whatever it is once you have decided what is holding you back TAKE ACTION and deliver on your intentions. It won't happen.....unless YOU do something about it!
