Greetings from Gavin Lunny
Naas Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional
Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Years break, hopefully you managed to get a few holes in as the weather was reasonably ok for the time of year.
Despite the odd bit of frost we had full greens most days and it is this time of year in particular that we notice the benefits from all the efforts made on the course so well done to David and his team.
This time of year happens to be, like in many businesses, our quieter time of year but more so because of the daylight situation, as participation is still quite solid even through the winter months. It gives us a chance to review last season and make some improvements going forward. Over the holiday period I had a chance to review some of the Equipment questionnaires we ran through this newsletter and there were plenty of positive feedback as well as some things you identified that I feel I can add to our offers in 2015.
One statistic I was particularly pleased about was the percentage of those surveyed that had taken lessons in the last 6 months was almost 40%, with a further 50% of you having taken lessons in the past 2-5 years. Well above the average in the overall poll conducted from all clubs within the Foremost group.
Currently we stock two main club brands, PING and Callaway and it was interesting that these two brands are the two most popular in the overall poll of brands played. We will be looking to add to these two brands later in the year and I will keep you posted, however it is pleasing to see that we are stocking the two brands that are in most popular demand and also the two best performing on both the US and European Tours.
I will be discussing some more of the results in the coming weeks but one statistic that did surprise me was that over 81% of those surveyed reported that they were happy with their current putter but just under 50% purchased their current putter between 2-5 years ago. I would guess that most of these purchases did not involve custom fitting and while custom fitting is an important part of each area of playing golf, none more so than with putting where up to 1/3 of your shots are played.
For the remainder of January I am offering a free putter assessment to asses you for stroke type and putter set up in terms of length, lie angle, grip size and loft. If you would like a putter assessment please click here and I can book you in. You have nothing to lose...only shots!!
In the mean time, remember the evenings are now getting brighter so that means more time to play golf!!!
I hope you enjoyed the reading the articles, and that you have a great weekend.

How to adjust to winter golf
Owning a decent set of waterproofs will save you shots. Okay, maybe not in the same way as a custom fit driver, but when the heavens open your round can deteriorate quickly if you don't own golf specific waterproofs. It's not just about staying dry either, but having that freedom of movement.
