Always a challenge
Last week's Memorial Tournament looked like it was a case of Jack V Bryson as the worlds most in form player crashed out of the memorial after 2 rounds. The physical transformation in Bryson has been remarkable and he deserves a lot of credit for doing what it takes to transform himself like that but golf as we know is a great leveler and I was glad to see that strategy, course management and short game still counted as well as precision driving and iron play. That said, I am very much a Bryson fan, golf needs people like him to push the boundaries and the limits of what can be achieved.
The great thing about our game is that it appeals to people of all ages, levels of abilities and ambitions. Courses vary hugely and where one will suit one group of golfers other courses may not, but regardless it is always a challenge no matter what your strengths.
One comment that is often made on the lesson tee is the desire to be "more consistent". I would recommend that anyone who has that goal as a golfer to rethink their goal! Golf is a very "inconsistent" game. The environment, course, is constantly changing, not to mention the weather! You rarely hit your ball to the same place on the golf course and even if you do the pin will probably be in a different place. As golfers, adaptability to different situations is the key skill required rather than consistency of swing. Learning a "swing" is based on what you are doing with the ball and or the situation. So, think of how you can learn to be more "adaptable" on the course and less "consistent" with your swing, you'll get better faster!
If you are stuggling with your game why nt book yourself in for a lesson. |
