I want to start off this week by wishing our Captains Alan and Barbara all the very best for a well fought and fun week as members contest their "Captain's Prize". The course is looking fantastic, the time sheets are full and as they say at Ascot, everyone is trying!

A lesson from the tee!

One thing that golf and life has taught all of us is that you never stop learning! One thing I have learned on the lesson tee is that sometimes what the book says doesn't actually work, functionality over esthetics is a much better approach. Sometimes we can get very caught up with things like, "keep your lead arm straight" or "don't move your head" or "your hands have to be in THIS position". If we were never told how to swing a golf club we would do what feels natural, what feels the most powerful and what feels comfortable. From there we might pay attention to what the ball is doing, and adjust something to make it go straighter, higher maybe further!

No other sport focuses our attention on how we move like golf does. Can you imagine playing tennis focusing on how your hips move, or hockey worrying about turning your shoulders or hurling thinking about transferring your weight? Don't get me wrong, technique is relevant but how you create good technique... well that's the key!

Competition news

You gotta be in it to win it

Don't forget our twos competition next time you are playing a competition. The twos is a great way to keep you going right to the end, or at least until the last par three as well as getting some extra spending power at the pro shop.

All you need is two euros to enter your name at the pro shop on the day. If you're not in you can't win!

Golf on Tour

The wait was worth it

The long wait for a Major was worth it. What an incredible PGA Championship we saw at TPC Harding Park!

A highly-competitive tournament saw everybody from rising stars to relative unknowns and, of course, Brooks Koepka all have a pop at the Wanamaker Trophy. In the end, it was rising star Collin Morikawa who came out on top.

Usually, pars are enough when you hold the lead on Sunday at a Major, but not this time. A six-under 64, including a chip-in birdie on 14 and an eagle on the 16th, took Morikawa to -13 for the week to claim an incredible victory aged 23 and in just his second Major start.

We had a poll on our website last week that asked who was most likely to dominate golf over the next decade. Jon Rahm was by far the favourite - he's back to World Number One now - followed by Koepka and then Justin Thomas. The egg is certainly on our face for not including Morikawa in our list! Maybe next time…

Think you're not good enough to be fitted?

The number of golfers who have not been fitted for their irons is far higher than it should be. We often hear golfers say they’re not good enough to get custom fitted, but we are here to dispel that myth and explain why getting fitted WILL improve your iron play.

Consistency is critical in your iron play and being fitted for your irons will give you this, plus improve your accuracy and make any errors less extreme.

There are so many factors that influence our ability to strike the ball better and hit the ball where we want it to go. One thing you may not have tried before is Titleist's T-Series iron range, which features two limited black finishes in T100-S and T200. These look incredible!
