There's no golf like real golf
There is no substitute for playing golf on the golf course as I learned to my own detriment last week. Hitting golf balls at the range, working on your game and swing as well as hitting balls into a net as many of us did a lot of over the covid lockdown, is important, has its place and keeps the golf muscles moving but scoring and hitting shots on the course cannot be replaced.
I often ask my clients are you "making a swing" or "hitting a shot"? Do you stand over the ball saying to yourself, "keep the head down", "arm straight", "transfer weight" or "turn through" or do you stand over the ball with a focus on where you want the ball to go, hitting it to the left or right, high or low, fade or draw, hitting the back of the ball?
Next time you play give more thought to what you want the ball to do, try to leave the swing stuff for the range or the lesson tee! To "play" is not to make swings but to get the ball into the hole! |
