Many of you will have met and been introduced to our new Assistant Professional Sarah Louise Winter, over the past week.

Sarah Louise joins our team with a strong background in golf. Hailing from Royal Belfast Sarah attended University at South Alabama in the U.S and also represented Ireland at Home Internationals and European Championships. Sarah has worked at Monte Rei Golf Club in Portugal and more recently on the European Tour in the area of Marketing.

Going to new lengths

So Bryson has announced that he will bring in to lay a 48 inch driver at this year's Masters but not beforehand. I must say I am enjoying Byrsons spotlight at the moment as he pushes all the boundaries in search of that marginal gain. If this latest trick comes off for him there is no doubt that he will take the game to a new level. Basically this is a long drive athletes approach to playing golf. Traditionally not possible because of the equipment and longer rough at the Major events. We now know that boundary has been broken and to his credit he lapped the field in terms of all aspects of the game in the recent US. Open.

To put it in context the standard length driver on tour is between 44-45 inches long, shorter in fact than the industry standard of 45 1/4- 45 3/4 inches. The reason is because players know the value of striking the middle of the clubface and a shorter shaft helps. If Bryson can move out to 48 inches and still maintain a centered strike then it could be yet another game changer.

It will be interesting to see how the Masters Committee reacts with the course set up, particularly as the course will play very differently in November than the usual April date. We shall wait and see but keep in mind what I mentioned in terms of shaft length and centered strikes!

The secret to a successful winter

Practice makes perfect, right? But perfect practise gets you there a lot faster. We've said it before - and we'll no doubt say it again - but winter provides the ideal opportunity to iron out some of those faults that have crept into your game.

It starts with a list

Begin by evaluating (out of ten) how close you are to your target for each area of your game. It's always best to be completely honest with yourself when doing this. In other words, forget about the odd time when you've hit a shot like Tiger and focus on what happens consistently round after round.

The path to better iron play
