Driver Assessment
If there is one thing every golfer would like more of, it's distance! There is nothing better than that feeling of a long straight walk from the tee box. To hit the ball further you must understand certain variables that go in to achieving more distance and it is not as simple as making the club head go faster! The angle that the ball leaves the clubface, the amount of spin you create, a centred hit on the face, whether you hit down or up on the ball, all of these affect your ability to create distance.
Using my TrackMan we can asses which of these variables is preventing you from maximising your distance and I guarantee you that it is only in the occasional instance that I find a golfer cannot improve significantly on their distance.
For the month of February I am offering you a complimentary driver assessment. All you have to do is click here or contact the pro shop to arrange an appointment. You have nothing to lose and only yards to gain!
I was delighted as I am sure you were to see our own Jack Hume announced on the official Walker Cup panel this week. Jack has a busy season ahead which starts this week in South Africa as he joins an Irish Contingent that will compete in two tournaments there.
Conor O Rourke is playing in two professional events in Spain this week as an amateur contender, it is an early start to the season for both of them but we wish them well and I will keep you posted of their progress.

In fact, the reality is that we don't know many and even professionals struggle, frequently calling in referees for advice. However, rules are rules as they say, and they are pretty unforgiving.
With this in mind, over the course of the year look out for a new feature in the newsletters called 'Our Help with the Rules', with advice and help on…er, well….the Rules.
We'll start one off for you: In a stroke play event Dave comes up to you on the 6th hole and tells you he's just discovered he's been playing with 15 clubs. What's the penalty, bearing in mind you are allowed a maximum of 14 clubs?
Would you know what to do? Apart from offering your utmost sympathy, the answer is as follows: A two-stroke penalty for each hole at which a breach occurred up to a maximum of four strokes a round. So, four strokes. Bad luck Dave…
