Greetings from Gavin Lunny
Naas Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Well done to our Barton Cup team on a tight victory against Carrickmines on Sunday! A great start by John Dunne and his team, best of luck this weekend to our Metropolitan, Central towns and ladies challenge cup teams who are all in action this weekend and support will as always be welcome.

Our ladies daily mail foursomes pair of Phillipa Ritchie and Mary Fitzpatrick had a great victory at Killeen and best of luck to them in the next round!

Jack Hume gets a call up

Everyone is talking about the anticipated Irish Open in Royal Co. Down and the exciting field that is coming to our shores, with many of the worlds best players getting behind the event.

I am delighted to tell you that our own Jack Hume has received an invite to the event and will represent Naas in what will be a memorable event. I'm sure many of you will be travelling, I know he is looking forward to the challenge and will be grateful for your support.

We have some special deals available at the Pro Shop on selected shoes, so if you are in the shop, look out for the special price deals on shoes which are all marked down. Waterproof suits are also on special offer this month and although our current fine weather takes our minds away from those rainy days on the course feel free to have a look.

All suits carry a 3 year guarantee and we have a great selection of sizes to choose from.

As we move from winter/spring to summer conditions, the most obvious change in the course is the firmness of the ground. Bounce returns to our drives....and the course, when we hit it straight becomes a little shorter. Of course, higher rough and no placing probably offsets this advantage. Give some consideration to how this effects your short game. Faster greens and green side rough creates a challenge and more loft is needed to pitch the ball higher with more stop.

If you are only using two wedges you are at a disadvantage and I would recommend putting at least another wedge option in your bag. If this is an area you think you need to look at, book a wedge fitting to asses the wedges you are using, suitability and pick up some valuable information on how you can get more from your short game.

Please click her if you would like an assessment of your current wedges and what options would work best.

Helping you choose the right ball

Some of you may still be in winter mode playing with a distance ball, when something offering a bit more feel would be better suited to the conditions and your swing. As the ball is the only piece of equipment you use for every shot it’s vital you get this right, so pop into the shop to ask for our help. One ball you may want to consider is Srixon’s new Z-Star.
