Have you ever considered HOW to practice? Traditionally we stand on the range with a basket of balls hitting repeated shots at the same target over and over again. Sometimes with a purpose of improving an aspect of our technique, but more often trying out various forms of well meant and friendly but unfortunately less than beneficial advice.
Of course technique is an important part of playing golf, however us humans are very clever at adapting to circumstance and often improve by increasing the difficulty of the challenge, pushing ourselves to perform better. Imagine your score card had no par written on it and par was never even established as part of the game. Imagine we just had long holes and short holes? How would we adapt?
I often think that par becomes a limiting part of our own game and practising as we always have done is limiting our ability to get better. Challenge yourself on the range, play holes in your mind and don't give yourself a second chance, learn to accept the result and start again. Play games around the pitching and putting green and see how many pitches you can get inside a club length, place a consequence on every shot!
Don't forget my short game masterclass this Saturday. Learn a simple approach to chipping, pitching and remove fear from your bunker play! There is only 1 place remaining, cost is €60 p/p and the time is 9am-12noon this Saturday.
