Congratulations to our Ladies Junior Cup Team who were crowned Leinster Champions last Sunday!! What a magnificent achievement for everyone involved. Well done to Eleanor and all the girls it really was a team effort throughout and their team spirit and camaraderie was without a doubt their 15th club! Best of luck to everyone in the All Ireland's!!
Our Junior golfers were also successful this summer winning the Geraldine League. This competition was established to develop junior golf and is an entry level competition for juniors who want to compete and represent the club. All clubs involved benefit regardless of winning or loosing and the experience stands to them however it is always nice to win and congratulations to Brian, Mary and everyone involved.
Our Pro Am was a great success last Friday. The course was set up fair but tough and that was reflected in the winning score of 2 under par 69 and the 91 points from the winning team. All together we had 39 teams and my thanks to our Secretary Manager Denis who put in great work in securing that the event was a success. My thanks also to DavidBehan who I had the pleasure of playing with alongside our Captain Gerry and recently crowned Walker Cup member JackHume. In the end I managed to tie for first place with DamienMooney and it was a very special day for me as it is any Club Professional's ambition to win their clubs Pro Am. Thank you to everyone for all the kind texts and messages and to all the members who supported the event in such large numbers.
Best of luck to everyone playing in the final round of the Captains Prize, work hard on your short chipping and putts inside 6 feet this week! Remember you can only play one shot at a time and in between shots it's ok to smile and enjoy your game!
So, Jason Day continued his blistering run of form with victory at The Barclays on Sunday. It was the Australian's third win in his last four starts and moved him in to first place in the lucrative FedExCup standings.
Although Day's most notable skill is his length and accuracy off the tee, it was his outstanding performance on the greens that really got our attention this week; he gained more strokes putting than any other player in the field; draining them from everywhere. One highlight came on the 15th, a putt of well over 30 feet that swung from left to right downhill and dropped in the bottom of the cup. It was a real beauty, one we'd all be telling our friends about in the clubhouse afterwards.
There's no better feeling for any golfer than making a putt you would happily have made in two. We all want to reward our solid approach play by making more than we miss, so try and take some inspiration from Day's performance this weekend next time you're standing over a tough one. If you'd like us to take a look at your putting stroke, get in touch here.
I hope you enjoyed the reading the articles, and that you have a great weekend.
