Congratulations to Joey Kirwan who won our Captain Gerry Berrigan's Prize last Saturday. Joey's form has been coming and I know he will take great satisfaction in winning the Captain's Prize. Joey is a great supporter of Naas Golf Club and although he had a few to spare standing on the last tee, was very glad to see the last putt drop. Carrying a lead is never easy!
Well done Joey and well done to all the prize winners, in particular to Joe McWilliams who put up a great defense of his 2014 title.
As I write this to you I am in my hotel room overlooking the "Big Dipper" in BlackPool, which means I am at the Walker Cup with Jack and looking forward to what will be a very proud day for him and Naas Golf Club when he tees up on Saturday.
I'm looking forward to linking up with those of you from Naas who were able to travel but for the next two days it's head down in preparation for the weekend. I know Jack is greatly appreciative for the support he has received in his campaign to make the team and looks forward to seeing everyone at the club when it is all over.
Congratulations to Jonathan Yates who won the Midlands (Carlow) scratch cup over 72 holes last Sunday. Jonathan beat fellow Naas member Liam Ashby in to 2nd place with a fine round of 66 on the final day. Conor O Rourke was 4th and it was great to see 3 Naas members in the top 5 in what is a long standing and prestigious competition.
The Walker Cup will be covered in TV this weekend on Sky and BBC and will be shown all weekend at the club so feel free to pop down and cheer on our man!!
My thanks to our Captain Gerry and our Secretary Manager Denis Mahon who joined me in the "Defense" of the PGA sponsors Pro Am at Portmarnock on Tuesday.
Unfortunately we did not dove tail as well as last year but we all played well in parts and enjoyed the day which as you can see was perfect for golf.
Maybe it was the pressure of our Captain Gerry watching, but he did hit a fine shot here to the difficult 15th and with a little less flex in his left elbow our Denis could be mistaken for Rory McIlroy at the top of his backswing!
Great leg action, beautiful turn of the hips and shoulders..... if only he believed me!!
Also thanks to our 4th Peter Murphy from Forrest Little who was great company and will be making his first visit to Naas soon.
