Greetings from Gavin Lunny
Naas Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

The weather certainly has been kind to golfers this week and it looks set to continue through the weekend at least! Don't forget there is a tribute to Jack Hume and his achievements this year on Saturday night and there will be some Q&A from the man himself, as well as some laughs and entertainment.

I think we would all agree that Jordan Speith was spectacular last week in winning the Fed Ex and is no doubt the player of the year. Henrik Stenson looked dazzled by Jordan's putting and mind game and he made those very points in his interviews. A good putter with a strong mind is a match for anyone and whenever we play well we do both to the best of our abilities. There is no doubt that to play well over a long period demands that all aspects of your game are good but I would recommend that you invest some time in learning to do both of these areas better next season.

Turning technique/ ability in to a performance is what we are all looking for and like practising a new grip or stance etc working on your mindset demands putting your techniques in to practise and like a new grip or stance it takes just a little patience to start working consistently.

The more I study about sports psychology, the more I realise how simple the solutions actually are and it comes down to just 2 or 3 easy to apply concepts. You must realise that the range/practise mindset and the course/performance mindset are two different things and that your way of thinking has to change from one to the other to be good at both. Some food for thought...

Coaching news

Do you want to strike it like they do on tour?

Have you ever wondered how the tour players hit their irons so far? Well, it is not all about strength, but understanding what makes a ball go faster. Ball speed... not club head speed!

On Wednesday, 14 October, I will be hosting a 'Learn to crunch your irons' clinic at the range from 6-7pm. This will cost 30 euros and includes golf balls and tuition. You will not only hit your irons longer, but also straighter.

There are only four places remaining on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to attend, please contact me by calling/texting 0868326676 or clicking here to book your place

I hope you enjoyed the reading the articles, and that you have a great weekend.
