Last weekend's Ireland v France rugby game, and earlier in the week our soccer team's heroic performance against world champions Germany were both enthralling. It got me thinking about the lessons we could learn from viewing that type of performance and how we could apply some of the secrets to that success to our own game and to when we play as a team. Despite numerous injuries and many sore bodies on Sunday, it was ultimately our strength in depth and a desire to win from everyone involved that proved the real strength of our team on the day.
Every single player was behind the cause, willing to support their fellow teammates and encourage and drive each player to the success which they deserved on the day. It was inspirational stuff and there were lessons learned that can benefit every sport. Courage, team work, support and each player controlling what they can, doing their job....well! At Burnley's football stadium in England, there is a sign that reads...."only the person who isn't rowing has time to rock the boat" last week proved that when everyone rows, great things can happen.
Also it is true in golf, which can feel like a very individual game. Even when playing on a team and focusing on what you can control, right now, at this moment, is key to improving everyones performance. I'm really looking forward to seeing how far these Irish teams can go as I know we all are. After last week's performance and seeing the belief that they carry, could they possibly do the impossible? Only time will tell!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish my assistant, Rachael, who has decided to move on, all the very best in her new career. Rachael has been at Naas GC as my assistant since April 2007 and has made many friends in that time. I would like to thank her for applying herself to the role at all times and I am sure you all will join me in wishing her a healthy, happy and successful future.
Next month, we will be embarking on developing a new shop layout. I have been looking forward to doing this for quite some time, and through my own thoughts and information gathering and some valuable feedback from the members, I look forward to a new look to the pro shop that will appeal to everyone.
Over the coming weeks, I will be running stocks quite low to allow for refurb to take place, so I do ask for your patience, however we hope to have all the work completed through November, be restocked and ready for the Christmas period.
I will keep you updated as to how we progress and when exactly work will start and finish over the coming weeks along with some images as I have them available. In the mean time if you need anything or have any requests please feel free to contact me.
